April/May 2009 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

Another two months have come and gone in what seems like two weeks, which is just another reminder to cherish every moment we have.

Over the past few months I have watched as my baby has transformed before my eyes. He went from being completely immobile to running faster than I can keep up with at times (it doesn’t help that I am pregnant). I watched him totter and fall to his bottom more times than I could count as he learned to walk, and now he only falls if he is being reckless or is really tired. The transformation is quite amazing, especially in only a few short months. It has been such a joy to watch him learn and to be there to encourage him.

Watching Tristen’s transformation has opened my eyes to how the Lord works in our lives. We are in process of growing up in Him. We learn to walk and even though we often end up on our bottoms, the Lord is there to encourage us, dust us off and lift us up. He is also delighting in us as we learn and look to Him for encouragement. Sometimes it may feel like a slow process that leaves us bruised, but as we continue to look to the Lord we will see change.

Another way Tristen has changed over the past couple of months is that he has become much more opinionated. He never used to question my judgment or the things I would feed him. He never used to care about going to bed and he never used to play in the toilet! As he becomes more independent, Mike and I hope to show him and teach him that He was created by God for God. We hope that he will make his decisions based upon godly principles. Oh how we need grace for this journey!

Again, thinking on this gave me such clear insight to how the Lord works in our lives. We, as parents want what is best for our child(ren), we want to give them good things, we want to protect them, and we love them. It is the same with the Lord and us. He loves us, gives us good things, protects us, disciplines us, and leads us. The best part is that He does it perfectly.

So what does this have to do with our journey to Ecuador? I have come to realize that the Lord is watching over us as a Father more than I ever have before. He is shaping us, preparing us, disciplining us just like a good father would, so that we will be prepared for what He has for us.

We thought we would get to Ecuador in a certain time frame, but the Lord is holding us back and preparing us in ways we didn’t realize we needed. Even though it is sometimes very painful and it is hard to be patient, He is looking out for what is best for us and He is shaping our character. This is exactly what we do with Tristen. We protect him from what he isn’t ready for and we let him go when he is ready.

So now as we are in this season of “waiting” and “preparation”, we ask that you would be in prayer for us. We ask that you would consider partnering with us financially, so that we can be prepared to leave in the Lord’s timing, which after much prayer, we believe is as soon as we have our necessary funds in. Right now we have about 17% of our monthly needs met and about 30% of our set-up costs met.
We appreciate all of you and we know we cannot make it on our own. So, thank you for all your love, support, and gifts!

May God Bless you richly,
Mike, Lindy, Tristen, and Baby boy #2
