Dear Friends and Family,
We hope this letter finds you well. It has been a while since we have written an update simply due to lack of time. There have been so many exciting things happening for Mike and me, and many of them have been unexpected. Here is a snap shot of some of those exciting things.
The Global Internship to Mexico City with Bethany was canceled. Mike and I had been feeling uneasy about going on the 16-month internship, and as we prayed about it we decided not to go. Only a few days after we let the director know we would not be going, we found out the trip would be canceled because the other team members decided to back out as well. We are thankful for the Lord’s leading in this. It would have been very disappointing if we had been planning on going and it was canceled. The Lord is faithful to lead His people!
With the cancellation of the internship, it looks as though the chapter of our lives at Bethany College of Missions has come to a close. The final closure came with Mike’s graduation on September 22nd. It was a beautiful fall day, the trees were decorated with yellow, red, and orange leaves, and the air was crisp, but warm. There was excitement in the air as all the graduates received their diplomas and said their goodbyes. The ceremony was a perfect closing to the time Mike had spent at Bethany. Feeling accomplished and blessed with the Lord’s grace over the past years, Mike accepted his Bachelor of Arts degree in Cross Cultural Communications. It was a wonderful day.
After the graduation ceremony Mike and I spent the day cleaning out our apartment on campus and moving all of our stuff into my small bedroom at my parents house. Our stuff fills the room from floor to ceiling, and there is one little pathway to the bed and closet. It has been challenging living with my parents for the past week and a half because finding our clothes and other belongings takes quite a while.
We are staying at my house because on Thursday October 4 we will leave for Ecuador! Shedd and Kris, Mike’s parents, gave us tickets to Ecuador as a wedding gift. Mike will finally be able to show me where he grew up! While we are in Ecuador we will spend time in Shell, which is where Mike spent most of his growing up years. While in Shell we hope to spend time at the orphanage there, visit some friends, eat some good food, and relax as well. We will also spend time in a beautiful city called Cuenca with some friends of ours who just got married and will be going to Ecuador for their honeymoon. We also hope to explore Ecuador a little and pray about where God would like us to serve in the future! We will return from Ecuador on November 8, so we get to spend a month there together!
As much as we are excited to go to Ecuador, we are more excited for tomorrow morning. At 7:00 tomorrow morning we will get to see our baby for the first time at our ultrasound appointment! The baby has grown so much and I actually look pregnant now. We cannot wait to hear and see how the baby is doing. He or she sure has been active! I can feel his or her little kicks very often, and Mike even gets to feel them as well. It is an incredible feeling, and an amazing blessing from the Lord. What an incredible feeling to have a little person growing inside of me!
There is so much more I could tell about the past couple of months, but those are the highlights. Thank you so much for taking your time to read about what the Lord has been doing with Mike and me!
Prayer Requests:
• Pray for safety as we travel to Ecuador. Being pregnant makes traveling more uncomfortable. There are very few health risks because I am in the second trimester; however, it would be wonderful if we were covered in prayer. (Travel in Ecuador is probably more dangerous because there are some crazy drivers down there)
• Pray for our time in Ecuador that we would seek the Lord and listen to His leading. We are thinking that Ecuador is possibly where the Lord is calling us for the future, but we will be praying about this a lot when we are down there.
• Pray for Mike that he would be able to find a job when we return.
• Praise: We have found an apartment to live in when we return! We move in two days after we get back. It is in Excelsior, which is a smaller town west of the twin cities. It is a beautiful town on a large lake. The Lord has blessed us so much!!
